Jiu Jitsu King

So Garrick decided to take a Jiu Jitsu class this semester, which he has loved. The coach that teaches his class is the same one that teaches at BYU (I took a couple of self-defense classes from him before I dropped it-small world) Anyway because he teaches both he has all of his students come together every semester to compete in a tournament. That tournament was this last Friday, I didn't want to pay $10 to get in so I volunteered instead-I was really excited to see Garrick in action! As a volunteer I was the bracket manager for his bracket which was convenient but also kinda lame since I didn't really get to see him for the first two rounds. Fortunately Garrick made it to the final round and I was able to capture his final win.
The kid placed first! He's a beast. The entire experience was super intense, watching girls attack girls then watching boys beat up boys- it was all crazy and there were EMT's close by at all times. But I'm so proud of Garrick, he was super nervous before starting (which I rarely see) and he went out and dominated everyone. He literally destroyed everyone, no one lasted more than a couple minutes with him. (other matches between boys in his bracket went on for 10-20 minutes) Garrick got them down in less than 5 minutes each, he barely broke a sweat. Yeah he's a Jiu Jitsu King. And I'm his adoring fan.

We're Bikers Now

Garrick and I are having been wanting to get bikes since we got married but we never got around to buying some. But last Friday we took the plunge and splurged on a couple of bikes, we feel pretty legit now biking around Provo with our helmets and night lights. That night we rode to Kasey's, Smiths, and all around south Provo. We have ridden our bikes every day since we've gotten them and we absolutely love it. Cars are so overrated.  I'll also add that it only took me 5 minutes to get to school today (as opposed to the 15ish minutes it usually takes me to walk) Right now biking is our favorite thing, just call us a couple of bikers.

Here are some pics of us biking Provo canyon on Saturday with our little brother Tommas, it was so much fun. It's always beautiful up there and it was cool enough where we didn't get overheated while we rode for 2 hours. Up at bridal veil falls we saw the huge avalanche of snow that came down and destroyed the fence. There was so much snow! It was pretty cool to see.
We love love love our new bikes. They are so fun and we're looking forward to being a biking family!

He DIY's

Garrick's mom was kind enough to give us the table and chairs that had been hanging out in her backyard the past year. We were so gracious to have more furniture (seeing as how we only had a bookcase and dresser to our name). I wasn't a huge fan of the off-white color in our all white kitchen, or the apple fabric on the seats. I figured some paint and new fabric were in order. This is the first of many home projects to come in our new apartment. Garrick had spring break a couple weeks ago and I asked him if he'd be willing to paint the kitchen table and chairs. Immediately he bought supplies and went to work, what a great husband right??

                                                                  Here's the before:

                                                                       And the after:
I'll give Garrick all the credit, when that man says he'll do something, he does something. He didn't rest until it was finished! For the little I did help with, it was so fun working together accomplishing something together. I love that we get to do things together forever. First project: check!

The New Place

This is to document how our new hood looks before we transform it into something a little cozier.

Living Room:
It's a little bit of a fixer upper (name that song).  The walls need painting and the doors have a hard time closing, but the carpet is really nice! Basically there's a lot of potential here. Once we throw up curtains, get some pictures on the walls, add some bright pillows I really think it will look awesome! We've also been promised that a paint job is coming in the near future....

Kitchen:
Again, the walls desperately need a new coat of paint, there tons of "touch up" parts that are all discolored and stand out like a sore thumb. The table, chairs, and storage shelving unit were free, courtesy of Mama Gaffney. The no dish washer thing has taken some getting used to, we are back to the old school dish washing by hand. But we love how much bigger it is in general than our last apartment. It's also cool having a back door, even if there is no light outside and we have to feel our way to the door, through the lock, and across the kitchen to turn on light. Hence the lamp solution by the door.

The bathroom and bedroom are both tiny and I'll document them on another day. Here's to home projects!
